Every once in a while a flick will come along that is filled with extreme cliches and formulaic plot points though is still able to win over my heart. Normally, I would love to tear apart a film like this but you can’t knock a great true story. Yes, there are scenes where I felt it was obviously too “Hollywood” to be real but anyone who says they are not cheering at the end of this film is crazy. Regardless if you know the outcome or not, which I did not, the sheer speed of this horse is astounding. Director Randall Wallace beautifully captured the brutal and beautiful nature of a horse race. Mind you, I have never raced a horse but I will say that I felt like I was right down there with them during those races. It was Randall’s close-ups and camera angles which helped sell the racing sequences. To be honest, I was having a hard time with the film at first because everything was set as a perfect formula but once the races started, I forgot about the film’s problems. Read full review
